Hello. Thanks for visiting this article to learn a little bit about me! My name is Win. I’m from Vietnam, I’m just a normal guy who has discovered a few ways to improve my spoken English without going abroad. I created this website to help people get similar results.
One day in October 2012, I was having a phone call in English with a French guy (My job required me to speak English from time to time). I couldn’t communicate well. At one point during the call, I wanted to ask the guy a simple question, but I couldn’t do it. I didn’t know how to form a question in English!
After the call, I felt terrible because I had been trying to improve my spoken English for a long time (about 2 years and 6 months), but I still wasn’t happy with the results.
I didn’t want to be perfect. I just wanted to communicate well enough to do my job. But I didn’t know what to do. The problem was that I lived in Vietnam. All my friends and colleagues spoke Vietnamese. And I didn’t have a speaking partner to practice with.
But I really wanted to speak English well. There were a few Vietnamese people in my company who could speak English really well. These people had lived in English-speaking countries for many years at some point in their lives.
I was jealous of these people. I wanted to speak English like them.
So this is what I did:
- I did some research on the best way to learn and improve a skill.
- I studied how polyglots learn to speak a new language (Polyglots are people who can learn multiple languages).
- I studied topics like human memory and language acquisition.
- I tried a lot of different language-learning techniques.
Basically, I started to get serious about improving my speaking. And then…five months later, I realized that my spoken English had improved quite a lot! This is what I wrote in my diary:
“Today, I had two opportunities to speak English with others. The first chance was a meeting with some people where each of us was asked to give opinions about certain things. The second chance was a 1 – 1 meeting. I spoke fluently. I was able to explain everything I wanted to explain. I made small mistakes and couldn’t come up with the right words sometimes, but overall it was impressive. The methods really work!”
But that was quite some time ago. Today, I can now speak English even better.
Don’t get me wrong! I don’t speak English like native speakers. But whenever I speak English in public, other Vietnamese people usually turn their heads to look at me, thinking that I must have lived in the USA for many years (I haven’t).
Enough story about me. Now, let’s talk about you. If you’re still here, I assume you want to speak English well too.
If you live in a place where people don’t speak English, don’t worry. I can tell you what to do. Or if you live in an English-speaking country but feel like you don’t get much opportunity to speak English, that’s OK. I can help you as well.
If you want to let me help you, don’t hesitate and tell me know. I’ll see you on the other side. Win.
